DIAgonal PLATFORM

What is DIAgonal

DIAgonal is a next-generation digital platform transforming metal manufacturing through the principles of the circular economy.

It empowers manufacturers with AI-driven tools to optimize product design, plan efficient production processes, and evaluate sustainable end-of-life strategies.

Developed within the European DIAMETER project, DIAgonal aims to shift the industry toward smarter, greener, and more resource-efficient manufacturing.

Why it matters

Manufacturing is responsible for 20% of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions, with traditional methods wasting up to 90% of raw materials in some sectors.

DIAgonal tackles this by enabling smarter product design — making components easier to repair, remanufacture, or recycle.

It also integrates with the European Digital Product Passport, providing full transparency on materials and processes — a key step toward a circular economy.

How DIAgonal Works

The platform combines three intelligent tools in one seamless cloud-based experience:

Design For Environment

Helps create products optimized for reuse and recyclability.

Process Planning

Identifies the most efficient and sustainable production methods.

Circular Sustainability Evaluation

Guides decision-making on end-of-life strategies.

All tools are powered by advanced AI, analyzing both environmental and economic factors to support sustainable choices.

Who’s Behind It

DIAgonal is built by a consortium of 18 partners from across Europe and beyond.

UNI Systems Information Technology leads the development, with contributions from top universities, research institutes, and industry leaders.

The platform is being tested in real-world settings across automotive, aerospace, oil & gas, and industrial tooling.

A dedicated startup will bring the platform to market, offering it at a fraction of the cost of traditional design software.

What’s Next?

The first version of DIAgonal will be ready for testing by 2027, with a full release expected in 2028.

DIAgonal combines cutting-edge tech with actionable sustainability paving the way for a cleaner, smarter manufacturing future.

By 2033, up to 1,800 companies could be using the platform — reshaping how metal products are designed, manufactured, and recycled.

Access to DIAgonal

Our platform will be available through a subscription-based model, offering manufacturers flexible access to our suite of tools.
